Heck, heck, wow, hey, she double hockey sticks. She's snarkhere, she's sarcastic. She's brilliant. Okay, all right, yeah,I believe you. She is Pritt that later. So tell me. Whatwas something you loved growing up in Christian culture? I really try to becool. The best album she ever was...

DC talks. Yeah, it wasa Banger of an album and even though now I have as old as ahuman being, I still think it's a banger of an album. I thinkI even remember making my friend. Who Was it? We can listen toit because I like Christian rock. Is Hey, letify wherever you are outthere, Katie, and I'm really sorry. And what was something that you hated? Going back into the wanting to be cool, Chevens, heaven andafter. I liked it. It was awful, although darry Watson, theoldest brother, MMM, was hot, but it was bad. I I'vetouched fin angel was better, but BECA okay. So next question is,what's your Christian passport, and by that I mean I guess give me yourChristian resume. Well, I was a good little Christian girl in the hillsof Perth, Western Australia. Did all the Bible Studies, all that kindof stuff of youth groups, Girls Brigade trails off. Yeah, just dideverything right, I think. And you've been employed by a church. I'vebeen employed by church and I've helped do the SONA school for that church.Oh, and at the moment I'm I'm doing history plast grand at Uni.I'd love to do my master's that. We'll see that. Through the historystuff I'm doing a one of medieval church history really does shape the context ofthe church in the power should be that...

...kind of stuff. It's also awesomeand I like to ranch on the Internet. So, which is great, whichis yeah, yeah, Hey, what's u? Hi, the teaser. Hey. So, would you like to introduce yourself? Name? Somy name is a t shirt JK. I'm back, or Rebecca, andthat's my name. That's really yeah, who is your favorite Gigi Princess? So I'd have to say it's meg or Magar from Hercules. Oh yeah,so say. And she stands up to Hercules, I'm put him in thisplace when he's being, you know, a little too big for his boots. And also she's amazing here and great style, you know. So definitelymeg although there are others that I like to so I guess Milan would takea close second because she's pretty Badass as well. Absolutely, yeah, sothat bigger favorite Disney princess. Actual much good at okay, I know youhad a very interesting so so watch you something that you know from back inthe day Oh. So, growing up, something that I loved that and maybea little problematic now, is the band relying. K freaking love them. I had every album. I knew all the words to lady Horkan Sandsand every other song. I can't keep pants. It's nothing better. Oh, Oh, thank you, Anna. I just I just really love theirmusic. Really spoke to me. And then, as I've got older,I realized that all maybe mood rings wasn't as work, because I thought itwas. Maybe they were a little bit problematic, but you know, Istill kind of love them and also listen to them when I'm feeling a bitdown and they make me happy. What is shop doing that? You justlike Joel Astein's teeth cover up every Joel...

...a steam book at the book storethat I worked at, Joelouste NA church show. Hey, do your research, Girl. I've got to look this up. I'm much know that Ido. Yeah, you will. He's looked exactly the same for the lasttwenty five years in mortal like he had a really think he's either blessed byGod or he's a vampire. So he is very, very rich. He'sthe guy that famously wouldn't allow people to camp out in his mega church whenHurricane Katrina happened. Oh yeah, and instead asked for more money to builda bigger well, he shows a feel winnow. Yeah, yeah, allright, so we're okay. Yes, what is your Christian passport? AChristian passport. So what gives me the right to even talk about this?I guess two things. When I was brought up in missions, because myparents are missionaries in India, so I was basically born into this culture andbrought up with a lot of mission specific, Evangelical Specific Christian for Upaganda and alot of pop culture as well. So there's that. And then also, for a year when I was twenty, I worked in a Christian bookstore thatshall remain nameless. It's now closed down in Perth, but it's stillgoing to spring nameless. So for a whole year I had to look atJoel steene's teeth, and I think you know that's that's why I hate itso much, because he they still haunt me my dreams. It was thetipping point for you. Yeah, I just I can't enjoy smile. Butthat's it. There's my Christian passport. Cool, okay. That leaves uswith Anna. Hey, what's up? So I guess that must be yourname. Know what or yes, my name is Anna. So welcome tothe PODCAST, Anna. Thank. So is who is your favorite Disney Princess? My favorite Disney princess is pokerhuntest.

Hey, she's sick. She's abit of a Vegan. Yeah, as she loves the animals that dive though, that same dive. Yeah, because of the wind, I've Oh,yeah, I love her. I just think she's great and I think sheknows what's up. Yeah, and I but have you ever heard a wolfcry to the Blue Corn Moon? Not Personally. Okay, maybe one day, one day, one day, one day. Okay. So I guessthe next question is growing up as you did as a Christian kid, whatwas something that you loved or liked back in the day? I actually reallyloved Christian music. I'm not talking about the cool Christian music like CCM.No, no, no, I mean I loved DC talk and I lovedlay and Jazza Clay, all of that. Loved them, but what I reallyloved was like worship in church, being part of the worship team, and I used to right songs and were do the whole thing and I lovedit. I loved that whole culture. Part of Yeah, all of thatwhat I hated, or disliked, I guess it's probably a better way toput it. So there was this brand called refuse the mark and I foundit really unsettling. I didn't like it because there was this whole thing about, you know, in the end times everybody will receive the mark of thebeast and on the forehead and the risk. Yeah, and it was this hugething in the s about, you know, refused them best. That'swhat it was, about credit cards and just made me. Yes, creditcards, and you know now our phones, guys, our phones, he butit just I found it really unsettling...

...and I didn't understand it and itwas kind of just fear mongering, I guess. So that's what I didnot like. Yeah, especially profiting off fear. Yeah, right, yeah, absolutely. So, you know, everybody was wearing the refuse the markhoodies and, you know, all the other merchandise you buy, because Ihear that movements that are well funded and have really cool hoodies and sweatshirts definitelya legitimate and absolutely if it didn't have a Hoodie and it wasn't real right, you didn't have a logo wearing a Hoodie. Yeah, right now, really brandy, going back with my trying to be cool. Yeah, sowhat was esther just friend? It wasn't. It was just based on the characterin the Bible and the you know, you were made for such a timeas this. Was the big yeah, kind of back and like five hundredBC. Yeah, yeah, you're made for such. I actually alot more than that, but still cool. Well, there you go. AndOh, yeah, Annah, so describe your Christian passport. What qualifiesyou to be here? So, I have a degree in ministry. God, that would do it. It was a really expensive piece of paper.Very cool, though, a lot of a lot of study. So you'vegot heavy theological background at least. Yeah, lots of time reading, lots ofbig words. I was a pastor's wife for three years. I wasa past to myself for a year. And Yeah, I kind of grewup within the culture. Yeah, I went on a mission trip when Iwas nineteen, because you didn't know you have to write. Well, that'sright, I did. I did.

Yeah, Russia, yes, Nice. Yeah. So, yeah, I guess that's what brings me here.Yeah, and what inspires you don't want to talk about this stuff? Exactly? Yeah, exactly, that's really cool. Okay, okay, so what we'regoing to talk about now? It's just some random bits of Christian popculture that I might be relevant to us, might not be. So I'm justgonna say a word or a phrase and and get a read from youguys. Okay, Youth Group, I was a day in my life Fridaynight. I thought I loved it. I had you could time each group. I lived for youth group. That was that was how out of theweek, right. Absolutely. I didn't have that many friends at school, but I had all the friends at youth group. Your well, you populatedat youth group. I was popular, K. Yeah, I was thelad kidding group. Yeah, popular, that's cool. I was the rebelIsh Black Al Kids, I think, but what do I know? Andalso there was that weird phase where you kind of transition from being a youthkid to eating leader without any official training. Yeah, anything. Yeah, youhave to have a working with Children's card. I don't know how oldwere you and you were first given the title of youth leader. I thinkI was about nineteen or eighteen. I think it was because I finished highschool and I was still going and it was just accepted that you just keptgoing. Yeah, and yeah, I just my friends and I just keptgoing youth group. And I do remember Tish, actually, you remind meof this when you mentioned that we had a website on all on the church, on the Church website. On the Church website, there was a section, because we were leaders together for a bit there, what we did.Yeah, and there was a section where...

...they had the youth team have alittle description about each one of them and why they were doing this. AndI've just made up some crap because I knew it would sound good and reallyI just wanted to go hang out with my friends. So, so funLittle Bays of information. Years later I was in charge of editing and updatingthat particular website. No Way, I'm the person that deleted all of that. Guy, you're doing so much. I don't need any of that lefton the Internet. I'm sure there was shocking photos as well. So,yeah, they weren't the best. No, had bank boy cat. Yes,you did still think I first became a youth leader when I was sixteen. Yeah, so how Youth Pastor was the only adult at the time it'svery small youth group. Wow and Ben, yes, my husband for those listening, and I were the two eldest and he had to go out andbuy the pizza one night, so he just left Ben and I in chargeof six generals to sixteen year old wow. Yeah, okay, I mean therewas probably only twelve of us all together, but so that was,I guess, like these group pay different experience for all of us, alsovery similar in some ways. All right, sir, Veggie Tales, veggie tails, GIE tails, begi tails, begi tails, Crocli salary, gottabe vegget Tales, but a bumpum, the best mob shan she ever. You are my Cheeseburg, my little she's very I'll wait for you. Ohthat's really it's a series of books based...

...on the book of revelation very looselyand extrapolating so much information that isn't in the Bible. The antichristis only mentionedfour times in the entire Bible, right, and yet they managed to build thisentire entire story and world on what's going to happen when the first evacuationof all the believers happens and those that are left behind have to fight duringthe tribulation time on earth and then wait for their chance to go to heaven. The trip force, I believe, was the youth version of those novelstribulations. They are the books that I read. I read all forty ofthem. Oh No, Anna, you can never take that back. Doyou want to? Do you want to know a shame for confession? Whatabout the left behind Herry show? We all breat fan fiction. No,but that isn't so far from what I would have done. I also, you know, all the good Christian people would have been up in heaven duringthe Rapture, but I secretly really wanted to study behind because I thought socool all the stuff that on happened and I would want to be there aswell. The two main characters from the kids book got married in the end. Sorry, spoilers, guys. Oh my God, please, I wasgoing to read those list but you know, so good stuff was still happening.Yeah, yeah, so, so I would quite like. You knowwhat, it doesn't matter, guys like it's fine if he missed the firstone. Just stay out of dangerous situations where you might, you know, your pilot might disappear and you might crash. No, that's fine, don't doanything. Wait for I had a run and I'm not sure if thisis true, but back in the day, when they were pilots on the plane, one of them had to if one of them was a Christian, one of them had to be a non Christian. I've heard that too.I have heard that. Yeah, I do not at all, but Ibelieved it. Wow. So okay.

So I guess the point of thispodcast is to talk about the impact that it's had on us and critique that. That sort of the pop culture that we're looking at particular. So thathad a big impact on you guys. Well, it did. I mean, like we have raised on the apocoly yeah, Oh, yeah, absolutelyhuge. How you're scared about being terrified of waking up and your family's gonebecause you forgot to confess that you lied to your teacher all. Yeah,I was. I was scared of hearing a trumpet at night. Yeah,I couldn't sleep at night because you were like, trumpets will sound, theLord will return. Yeah, but that didn't that trauma. And the thingis that's what we grew up with. It was normal. Yeah, sodon't wake at it up with the sound, because she will die fright. That'swhy none of my kids play trumpets. Flute and clarinet up significant impact. That left behind, and apocalyptic scriptures had a national impact. Now because, yeah, none of my children will ever play a trumpet. That's it. Yeah, never my God, what has the Bible done, taken fromYour Life? So there you go. I guess that was that was leftfind. Let's leave it behind. That was good, nice transition there. So, Tisch, I feel like you may have mentioned before that you havestrong feelings about the poem footprints. For those of you are not familiar, although I'm sure everyone listening to this will be, it's a poem and itwould you like to describe it? Yes, you. It's basically a poem depictinga story of two sets of footprints in the sand, and then there'sonly one set of footprints in the sand, and all the pictures I ever sawof it was that the tide had washed away one of the set thefooot prints anyway, and when the person...

...questioned why Jesus wasn't walking with themanymore, Jesus said that when there was only one set of footprints, itwas then that he carried them. Is that? Yeah, so I guessthe point of the poem is, Oh no, I only saw one setof footprints. Why did you leave me, Lord? And then Jesus replies,my child, he mistaken. It was then that I carried you, indicating that he had carried him, and that's why there was only one setof prince, possibly, I don't know. So that poem was on the backof a toilet door in my childhood, but I can't remember if it itwas like in my home or my grandparents or but it was definitely onthe back of a toilet door because I know that poem. Yeah, metoo. It was at my school in India, in the entol a giantlike a print out of it, like mounted on wood and so on oneside we had a picture of Jesus, next to it a picture of Mary, because it was a Catholic school, and then opposite it footprints. Soif you're waiting and reception at my school, you had to read it and youknow what, it doesn't even Rhyde. Well, there you got. Imean, what is the point of a poem we're gonna leave our ownfootprints as we leave this topic? No, no, I talked about the movie. I Walk to remember. I loved that movie. I was soexcited. I was always excited when there was some kind of Christian thing thatmade its way stream, into mainstreams from crossing the say and leaving soundtrack.I will give it that. I always had this feeling of this is it, this is this is what's real. He's going to become a Christian, soup believing because Mandy Moore, yeah, and Shane West, our honor team, and they're cool. Yeah, and they're practically Christian. Wants them tofollowing now. Yeah, they will be saved. Yeah, they should willbe. This and cancer sucks. Don't blow in love with me. Youknow what, as gross has, whatever,...

...manipulative, whatever it is, thatmovie has stayed with me and I still like it. I like MandyMoore and and the soundtrack. Like I said, tissue was really good.Yes, which foot on it? It had jazz of clay. I can'tclean that funny day. Had some bad representation of people of Color in thatmovie. I can't even remember that one friend of his, the guy who'slike honk if you love Jesus, and the whole time every line he hashe calls them. It's just so stereotypical. It's like a very white person wrotethis character and the imagine lunch Bun and they never met a black personin their life. Yeah, it was. Yeah, but the screenplay, like, come on, who wrote? Whoever wrote the script, I'll doa little better. Still has a special spot in my heart, though, and only hope and I believe that something didn't yeah, so that's song waslaid at our wedding during the signing of the register. Probably wouldn't choose itagain today if I was planning my wedding, but you know, it was not. It's nice. HMM, it's not. Yeah, but that's okay. You know what, guys, I think we should take a walk toremember over to the CCM world once again. In so if CCM is contemporary Christianmusic or Christian contemporary music, and it was always did you like CCMor did you like secular? And it was very distinct what you could listento him what you could listen to. And one thing I remember very specificallywas you would go to a bookstore or a music store that was Christian andthey would have in the CD section. Oh, if you like Green Day, you like reliant he if you like slip knot. You'll enjoy pod becauseI both knew that all. You know...

...what, both those bands are good, so whatever. All four of those mans are good, so whatever.ANYWAYS, we're actually not going to talk about CCM. That's popular. Iguess we're going to talk more about worship music, Planet Shakers and Hill Song. Oh the double. Yeah, sorry, he'll song. In the nineties itwas big that that was all of the worship music in that to BloodYep, yeah, shoot, and don't do it. It's triggering. Yes, I said that word. It was like touching heaven, changing kids andchanging darling. Check, she's she's everywhere. Yes, she was. I justwant to do a shing along with a show. Wonder that. Ifeel like, yeah, yeah, we know, do that. Sure,if I'm saying, Oh God, I mean we can do that, wedon't have to actually a musical episode, right. So, okay, Idon't we don't have an episode yet, so that's wait till we have anepisode and then maybe you can consider a music one, because a second one, who knows? Okayish, yeah, Planet Shakers, let it. Howmany planets shakers conferences did you go to? Three? Two in Perth, onein Melbourne. Oh, yeah, running the eastern Stadt was the year. They didn't do one in Perth because we do not exist. Yeah, the Church group goes. Are All, yeah, and I didn't go.Yeah, and I feel like you're regretted it at the time, but now, yeah, well, would have been Melbourne. Shit would have been coming. Reggie DABS, Chris something, I can't remember his name. Christoman? No, I don't know. But Oh, but that reminds me. I didgo to a passion conference one time,...

M Vancouver. Wow, and sawDavid Kratter. Wow, guys, I'm so cool you like. CanI get I to Shay? Rebecca was the cool Christian. I was not. You were. You were he's missionary. Was it? No, you knewall the dance and stuff. Yeah, that's right, all right, lodgemy purple Jackson, it was my personality. No, that's yeah,it wasn't. Jesus, lover of my soul. Oh, that was avery provocative song. When you are I mean if you changed it to anyboys name, kind of works. Just say Peasn't love Kevin. I willnever let you go. But that's another thing. There Hey, a lotof songs written by bands in Christian music that whole thing about trying to berelevant and cool. So is it about God or is it about a girl? I don't know. I don't know if I care because I'm very theSouth Park episode about that. Yes, yes, we will watch it.Okay, we will talk about it on this podcast. Actually, all right, I'm running it down, so we definitely will do that. What wouldJesus do? Bracelets? What would you? I wore everywhere, or except Iwent to Catholic school, so I had to take it off for school. I was allowed to wear a cross necklace, but I wasn't allowed towear other jewelry. Yeah, what would Jesus do? I had the littlebracelet. I also had one of the frog ones. Fully rely on Godand a push one, pray until something happens. I feel like there wasanother one is well, but I can't. Yeah, we also had these thingscalled evange cubes, which, personally, they're ruined cubes for me forever. So they were this tool that you...

...could use when you were out evangelizingand it was a cube that you held in your hand, kind of likea rube's cube, but chunkier, and it had a picture on it.A yeah, yeah, basically you folded it open and it had a differentpicture. You folded it open again, it had a different picture and youkept doing it until you told the entire story of basically creations in Jesus,Heaven, Redemption Heaven. All right, well then, I'll do a couplemore Bible. Yeah, the Bible. Oh my God, the Bible. What a culturally relevant the Teen Study Bible. The teller tell us about a Bible. So my brother had the teen Study Bible and I stole it becausehe wasn't reading it. And then, a non Christian, when I wasabout to turn twelve, I asked my parents for my own copy of theTeen Study Bible and I remember in year seven at the Christian school I wentto, we had to do devotions and we took it in turns and whenI did devotions one day I used the teen Study Bible because I was acool Christian kid with a Colorful Bible, not just a Black Bible, BrownBible. I would like to read a little bit of an excerpt from it. There are these pages throughout that have like a dear Sam where somebody haswritten into Sam Sam. I could ask amy cut of yeah, yeah, right, yeah, kind of like when they write into Dolly magazine and youknow, ask about thinks you. So this says, Dear Sam, I'moverweight and I have a big nose. I hate the way I look.I can't lose weight and I can't afford plastic surgery. It's what do Ido? Is that the only option? HANK IN HOUSTON? Hey, okay, puy plastic surgery. How this is...

...the response. I'm not going toread the whole thing, but just this, this first part really struck me.Dear Hank, the teen years can be unkind to a person's looks.Wow, read, you are ugly. This is a real letters that we'rewritten. Absolutely not writing one day and then I realized it says, DearSam, ink one hundred advice lane, anywhere USA. Oh, that's definitelyan address. Many eleven year old nude pasine getting good, Dear Sam,letter return to because of the addresses exist. All that way. To compound yourteen Issuele to just send it to evenywhere even let us to Santa, get taken to the North Pole, not really, but they don't go back. Yeah, yeah, no, have a little heart, steady Bible.Well, thanks for participating in this discussion. Guys, going forward we're going tobe doing more episodes on a lot of different topics. For example,we were thinking maybe you'll do an episode on purity culture, maybe one onwomen in the Bible. Look at some authors like Francine rivers, books likefireproof. I'm just a bunch of Christian pop culture and media, a lotof things we grew up with. If you have any suggestions, you canhit us up on our facebook page or our instagram and we will link thembelow in the information. But he has any memory, cherished memories of culturesare in the day?
